How safe is Craft Resin to use?

Craft Resin epoxy is safe to use when it is used as directed, with the right protection. It is not a hazard-free material, and we would rather tell you exactly what it is than describe it as something it isn't.

What the classification actually says

Independent toxicological risk assessment (SGS, December 2025) classifies both parts as a Dangerous Mixture under Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008:

The same assessment concludes that the products are unlikely to pose a significant health risk to the intended user under normal and reasonably foreseeable conditions of use, provided the manufacturer's instructions are followed. That last clause is the important one.

What to do

• Wear gloves. Uncured resin on skin is the most common problem we see. Repeated contact can cause an allergic skin reaction that does not go away — once sensitised, a person may not be able to work with epoxy again.
• Protect your eyes. Both parts cause serious eye irritation; UV resin can cause serious eye damage. If resin gets in your eye, rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical attention.
• Work in a well-ventilated area and avoid breathing vapours. Craft Resin is low-odour, but low odour is not the same as no vapour.
• Do not use it on skin, or in anything that goes on skin. It is not a cosmetic material.
• Keep it away from children and pets, and away from food and drink.
• Wash off any splashes immediately with soap and water.

Common questions

Is it non-toxic? No, and we do not describe it that way. Uncured resin and hardener are classified as hazardous to health. Handle them as you would any workshop chemical.

Is it VOC-free? No. Independent testing (SGS, GB 33372-2020) measured 40 g/kg of volatile organic compounds in the epoxy and 4 g/kg in the UV resin. Both are within the regulatory limits for their category, and both are well above zero. Ventilate your workspace.

Does it produce fumes when mixed? Mixing generates heat, and heat increases vapour. Work in a ventilated space, especially with larger volumes.

Is cured resin safe to handle? Fully cured resin is inert and safe to touch. The precautions above apply to the liquid resin and hardener, and to sanding dust — always wear a mask when sanding cured resin.

Is it safe for food contact? We do not currently make a food-contact claim. See our separate article on that question.

What about REACH? Our epoxy has been screened against the full REACH Candidate List (SGS, December 2025) and all substances of very high concern were below the 0.1% threshold.
